  • Test brakes at low speed before hitting the road
  • New pads: 100 miles of bedding-in, no hard braking

Average US cost (USD)

  • DIY front pads: $40-90 a pair (EBC, Lyndall, Galfer)
  • Dealer pads + bleed: $220-380
  • New front rotor pair: $300-600
  • Brembo radial upgrade: $1,500-2,800 installed

When to see a mechanic

  • Lever goes to the bar even after bleeding
  • Visibly warped or wavy rotor
  • ABS warning stays on

Quick questions

Can I use car brake pads?
No. Different compound and shape — works worse and is illegal in the US.
How long do pads last?
Front: 10-15k mi. Rear: 15-25k mi. Loaded touring cuts that by 30%.
